Mixing memory brands

Is it okay to mix brands?

I currently have one 512mb stick of samsung pc2700 and am looking to get another 512mb stick (video editing).

I found a deal on some kingston pc2700 for around $65 (locally) and was wondering if I could run into any problems mixing the mfg's. I don't know what the latency is on the kingston, but the samsung is 2.5.

You most likey wont run into an issue, but if it were me, I'd bite the bullet and get another stick of sammy. I just paid $70 for a 512mb stick of Samsung pc2700. If you go dual channel ddr, you'll have less issues if the dimms are matched.

I ran into a problem running a Micron 256Mb PC2100 with a Samsung 512Mb PC2100... I have another Samsung 512Mb PC2100 arriving today so I am going to see if it indeed the ram not playing nice with each other.

You can do it, and it proably would work... But to me, that's like having two different types of tires on your car. Sure, you can drive around like that, but wouldn't you feel kinda silly?

I agree with code-hack in every sense.
You probably won't have problems with that, but it IS nice to make sure the brands DO match just if you want to ensure smooth operation. it isn't, however needed. if you CAN find a stick of Samsung for a few bucks more, get that instead. otherwise, ya should be fine!

i have 256 pc2100 PNY i just ordered some GENRIC NO BRAND 512 mb ram ddr2100 its coming in the mail so i check it out for you 😉 512mb SOON BABY!

Just to reiterate what everyone else has pretty much said - mixing memory sticks should be OK but if you can, try to get matching ones.
