Mixing IDE Devices

If a ATA66 or ATA100 HD is on the same channel aqs a ZIP100 Drive will the HD run at ATA33 or ATA66/100?

All the drives on the same channel will run at the speed of the slowest drive.

So lets say you have an ATA 66 and an ATA 100 drive, it will run at 66.

Not true, if you have a ATA100 and a ATA66 on the same cable... the ATA100 will run at ATA100 and the ATA66 will run ATA66.... However Im not sure about PIO mode like a zip drive would be.... but mixing UDMA drives doesn't matter.

So if I mix an ATA33 HD& a ATA66 HD on thesame channel the ATA66 will run at ATA66 and the ATA33 will run at ATA33?

Devices on the same IDE channel do not run at the same time. Even if you copy from one drive to the other, it will alternate between the two. However, it is better not to mix an UDMA device with non-UDMA device. Internal Zip is not UDMA.

With two HD on modern Mobo (from the last year or so), it does not matter. When the computer read or writes to ATA33 it does ATA33, when it switches to the ATA66 it does ATA66.

If you have, only two channels put the two HD on one channel and the CD-ROM with the Zip drive on the second channel.
