NO...especially not fast page and EDO. Wow, I remember that stuff. I used 32 megs of fast-page RAM in my Pentium 133 box. I didn't even know they made that stuff anymore.

Yeah I know the stuff is archaic. But this board I have supports bboth types. I did some searching on the web though, it says you can but they have to be in separate banks.....

Yes.

Just ID10T-proofing addition, I hope you do know that you have to install them in matched pairs. So you could have a pair of EDO simms and a pair of FP, not one EDO and one FP.

Free fast page? My 486's are hungry for ram...

What mobo are you planning to do this in?

I've got an Asus T2P4 which I had EDO in one bank and FPM in the other so it's definitely possible.

As BA mentioned, you need to do this in matched pairs (both the EDO/FPM as well as the size of the SIMM modules)

HA, that's right. I completely forgot about the SIMM thing. Actually, I think I have the 32 SIMMS (2 32 sticks = 32 in fast page terms). AND I have 16 MB SIMMS (2 16 sticks = 16). Damn, just think if RDRAM was like that....256MB == 2 256 sticks. That would suck more than it does now. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ instead of just $$$$$$$$$$$$$

Yeah...I'll post here if I find them. Just pay for shipping and they're all yours.

Doing my part to recycle and not kill our habitat. (Anyone want a Compaq 5700T tower and the mobo????)

I am actually putting this into an ALR 6x6 motherboard. It uses DIMMs. The way the board is set up you kinda have to use 4 slots per bank with 4 banks. So it holds a total of 4 gigs of RAM. Thanks for the offer on the SIMMS though. :)

Wow, I didn't know they made FPM DIMMs :Q . I know I've seen EDO DIMMs.

Oh, and MasterHoss, even though you need to install in pairs, it doesn't cut the memory in half (e.g. 2x16MB SIMMs = 32MB not 16MB).

It does limit your expansion options as you have to trade in two SIMMs for 2 of a higher capacity.

There's nothing really rare about FPM & EDO simms, you just need to know where to look. Lot's of people who are upgrading their companies' hardware have drawers full of the stuff - just not usually anything bigger than 16's, and often only 8's. I have a few 32's which I have in still very functional P200 and P233mmx machines, two in each, whose chipsets can only cache 64mb RAM max. Remember that - you take a performance hit with older mobos (like Intel FX & TX chipsets) if you stick in too much RAM - it disables the L2 cache.

SIMMS are pretty common in my opinion too. But DIMMs are what I am refering to. Take a look at EGay and see what they are going for. Its ridiculous compared to PC 133 SDRAM.

Not a problem. I have this problem of talking in circles and distorted ovals. Most people dont have a clue. :D
