Mixing different speed ram for a notebook?

I recently bought a Everex XT5000T. It comes with a stick of 1 gig DDR2 533 (PC2 4200) leaving the 2nd ram slot open and I was wondering if it was ok to put a stick of 1 gig DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) in the other slot? Just asking as I can get a 1gig DDR2 667 stick shipped for $52 vs a 1gig DDR2 533 for $64.

i think the faster one will 'downclock' to match the lower speed one, eg. 533mhz in your case

As long as the faster SODIMM can drop back to sync with the slower, you should be OK.
