Hi,

I intend to build a Hyper-V server using Windows Server 2012. Motherboard: ASRock Z77 Extreme4, CPU: i7-3770.

I already have 2x4GB of G.Skill Sniper DDR3 1600MHz CL9 (F3-12800CL9D-8GBSR). I would like to add 2x8GB, which of course I can continue with the same models G.Skill Sniper DDR3 1600.

What would happen if I combine the 2x4GB G.Skill Sniper above with a different pair 2x8GB DDR3 1600 model? Like G.Skill Ares or G.Skill RipjawX ?

The reason of this silly question is because these 2x8GB are available a the local computer store nearby. While the 2x8GB G.Skill Sniper DDR3 1600 would cost me $20 extra if ordered at Newegg.ca

Thanks in advance for any help

Cool thx. So G.Skill Ares and Sniper seem to be identical? The link of the Ares you showed in your post has a blue heat skink. The model I think of are orange http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...Desktop-Memory

Is it just cosmetic or does the color has any meaning in G.Skill classification? Do you know how are the Ares compared to the red RipjawX ?

Sorry for the silly questions. I buy computer hardware once in a blue moon.

That link is the 16gb kit but even the 8gb kit seems no different than than kit with the blue heat spreaders.

Specs look identical.
As long as you have the 1.5v Snipers and not the 1.25v Snipers, the Ares 8gb 1600 kit should match up with the sniper 1600 8gb kit.
