I have a Maxtor ATA 133 card and two 80GB DiamondMax Maxtor drives, one is ATA 133 and one is ATA 100. If I run them on the same IDE channel off my 133 card, will the channel still run at 133 for the faster disk or will it throttle down to 100 for both disks? Assume the 133 capable disk is the master. Thanks for your responses in advance.

It should default back to ATA/100 to support the older disk, not that there would be any sort of a difference. No hard drive even bursts above ATA/66 yet though the 73Gb Raptors get really close. If you want the best overall performance though have each drive on their own channel, that way they won't be fighting over the send/receive que

Doesn't really matter. No IDE hard drive extant pumps more than 80MB/sec. though the new IDE adapters are supposed to be able to adjust to accomodate each drive as long as all are at least UATA/UDMA 66 or higher.

As long as the motherboard supports UltraATA-5 or UltraATA-6 and you are using 80-core cables each drive will run at it's own maximum speed.

I have an IWILL KK266R-Plus so it has two ATA 100 channels. My Maxtor card adds two ATA 133 channels. I'll probably leave the ATA 100 drive on a motherboard channel. Thanks for everyone's input.
