Quick question. Can you SLI a gtx260 and a gtx280 or 285?, or does SLI require the same card?

It must be the same card, though you can sli a different branded card. Example being Sli an EVGA 9800 GX2 with a XFX 9800 GX2. Basically the 2 cards you are sli'ing has to have the same GPU.I could be wrong but im 99% sure.

Yes they have to be the same GPU, but they could be different clocks. Once you put them in SLI, they will both be downclocked to the lower one.

Example: A stock GTX280 SLI'd with an overclocked GTX280. When you enable SLI in the drivers settings, they will both be at stock speeds.

These guys are both correct, SLI requires identical GPU to work. So you cannot even run 8800GT + 9800GT together, although they are the same card - the BIOS is different and you won't be able to enable SLI mode.

Now, once Hydra launches, the whole game changes.
