Dell says...I just bought a Dell Latitude E5430 laptop, which comes with 2GB RAM (in one slot). Can I add a 4GB card to the other (empty) slot, for a total of 6GB ? Of course, using the same type of RAM. Win7Pro64, i5-3210.
Thank you.
and the RAMifications if unmatched.
Mixed sizes will work, but I'd probably just add two new 4 gigabyte sticks and be done with it. Ram is fairly cheap right now, if you can afford it I'd do 8 gigs total and don't buy it from Dell!

You'll lose dual channel and it'll operate at single channel operation. Thanks to all, for for the useful chart ...
So nothing definitive yet Dell warns that the computer will "continue to operate" if sticks are not matched ! ) I wish I could find a computer engineer who knows for sure either way, and the ramifications if unmatched. Many say that the "matching" requirement is from "marketing" to sell more memory, but I don't think that info is reliable. I suppose there might be a warranty issue as well.
Expect more useful information. I am puzzled. Thank you...You'll lose dual channel and it'll operate at single channel operation.
