I have a switch and 2 comps attached. The switch is uplinked to cable modem. Nice so far, but I want to add a 3rd computer in another room but dont look forward to drilling holes in walls etc so would a wirless system work to get it connected to the wired network at home. if so what do I need to go out and buy?

You might consider purchasing one of the wireless cable routers that many companies are now starting to offer. I know that linksys and dlink have these available (check out their web pages for more info). This would also reduce your need to have all of your computers on public IP's. If you're on @home, I'm not even sure if you are allowed > 2 IP's. Also it will give you some layer of protection from hax0rs out there. I'd personally never put an unfirewalled windows box on the internet. :)

Wireless stuff is pretty expensive right now, so you may think twice when you see how much your setup will cost. Good luck.

Try the phone line networking kits. The phone line kits can go up to 10Mbit and work with DSL or cable modem.
