Mitsubishi/NEC DiamondPro 2070SB issue

Heya,

Recently the components of my new PC have arrived (with the exception of the graphics card...) and I've built my system. After a couple of failures (it was the motherboard shorting to the case xD), everything's going very well. I've installed Windows XP SP2 (I had a spare graphics card, but it doesn't really fit properly in the case; it sticks out where the screw is supposed to be. Yet I used it, since it's the only one I had available) and configured pretty much everything.

But now I've noticed that there's just one very small horizontal "black" line, somewhere between the top and the middle of the screen. Consulting the manual on the CD, I saw the following:

Thin horizontal lines appear on your screen
Thin horizontal lines are normal for an aperture grille CRT and are not a malfunction. These are shadows from the damper wires used to stabilize the aperture grille and are most noticeable when the screen's background is light (usually white).

Although I'm sorta relieved it's not really a defect, I'd like to be certain about this. It's a very vague horizontal line, not exactly noticable, except on light colours, such as light blue (XP logon screen), white, etc.

Its supposed to be that way. All AG CRT's have them, and usually 21 inch or more monitors have two. You learn to ignore it after a while.

Kovie: You mentioned that 21 inch monitors or bigger usually have 2 of those lines. I'm surprised my monitor has only got one and it's a 22 inch monitor. Certainly a good quality monitor in that case. xD

virtualgames0: My PC is currently out of operation now (for some reason the spare graphics card doesn't fit anymore; I got a VGA POST error upon booting), but once the new graphics card is here, I'll check it out, but as far as I can recall, I haven't seen one there. 😛

Thanks for the quick replies. 🙂

I've finally got the spare graphics card working again. It seems I overlooked the second horizontal line. xD There are indeed two of those horizontal lines on this monitor. I can live with that. 😛

You should want to live with it. I ahve the same monitor and it is Amazing. AG monitors ahve these 2 lines which are there only downside. Sony inverented the AG tchnology 30 years ago and you should look at it as a sign of ellegance because these monitors are so much better than the Shadowmask counterparts

Damper wires are integral to the design of the aperture grille monitor developed by Sony. 2 manufactures now are only Sony and Mitsubishi. Your 2070 has 2 damperwires, you may just not notice the other one as much.
