Good god, I hope that sucker doesn't make it out to production. It's a great car, and I love hatchbacks and some wagons, but this thing is BUSTED. What were they thinking? The rear looks like a minivan, and those lights? Good concept, bad execution. The front windshield is too high for my tastes too. I don't know how the tastes are over in Japan, Canada and wherever else they sell that Evo at, but I think Mitsubishi is going to lose a fortune on this thing.

And as we all know, Americans hate wagons...

It could just be me, but I think it looks a lot like the newer Volvo wagons. Very sharp corners and a sort of wedge looking front.

As far as the wagon's not doing well over here, I think that's going to change. People are slowly starting to realize that AWD is superior to FWD and RWD and in some situations better than 4WD. Because of this, many wagons are starting to come out in AWD versions.

Also, I think that once gas prices shoot over $2.50 a gallon, like it just might do this summer, people are going to realize that getting 25-30MPG in a wagon is a lot more preferable than getting 20MPG in an SUV.

We are also seeing a new niche market developing - the sport wagon market. Pontiac, Toyota, Subaru, and Audi all fit into these categories (in increasing prices). Subaru is just days away from releasing their WRX wagon. It's an AWD hatchback that boasts a very low 6 second 0-60 time. I believe that the Evo wagon is going to be Mitsubishi's answer to Subaru.

The look of the car won't kill the wagon, but the Mitsubishi name stamped on the front of it will. Their reliability has taken a nose dive and people take notice to that.

The Subaru WRX comes in wagon form as well, and buy what I have been reading on the boards, many people are opting for that version over the sedan.

I said hatchback, but the WRX Wagon is nothing more than an "extended" hatchback :)

True true, the Audi Allroad is one nice looking cross breed. The Audi A6 wagon doesn't look bad either. I've been following the redesigned Subaru's for a little while, and although I've been disappointed by the looks and the overall performance decrease (they are actually slower than the current model) they look a hell lot better than that Evo Wagon.

The Evo's will have to go through a major redesign to make it over to the U.S. I read somewhere that the way they have their intercooler layed out (butt up against the front air dam) is totally against U.S. regulations. And as of now, they don't see any reason to redesign it yet. Perhaps the next generation.
