For every 13 second Civic or Integra out there, there are just as many Camaros and Mustangs that eat them alive and hardly burp.
At the track I go to, it's about half and half import and domestic and neither side is really a lot faster. With the Honda tuning scene so damn big now, it's not that hard and expensive to build a 13 second integra/civic any more. Last time I went, this Integra ran with a Viper, both ran low 13s. It probably helps that I live in socal, where the import scene started. Plus all the slow cars seem to stay away.

The majority of imports don't run 13s without some medium/heavy modifications. And getting a Civic/Integra/ect to run low 13s in not an easy, or cheap task to complete.

For less than $100 you can get a stock WRX running 13's. Gut the up-pipe(free), swap a straight pipe instead of muffler($50), MBC($50). It's all about the launch.

There's one guy who ran a 12.9xxx with just a turboback, mbc, samco hoses and 1 other cheap mod. That is a pretty rare case, and he was an expert driver.

For normal driving, even normal cars (like Acura's, non Cobra mustangs, etc..) will give the WRX a hard time if you don't want to do a big launch. But remember, real men race from a stop =)

YOW

The Zonda I want to say is #1

It's 3rd now.

1. Pagani Zonda
2. Koenigsegg CC
3. Mitsu Lancer Evo VII

:)

Ummm...Why isn't the McLaren or Enzo number 1 and 2?? WTF track is this?
Whatever their test track is. Lots of corners/barricades/etc to navigate.

That track sucks... its flat. The Nurburgring would be a much better and a better indication of a car's potential.

I like my Forester XT. I like the WRX as well, but I have 2 young kids and the Forrester is more practical. The Forester is a sleeper.

That new Forester is supposed to be a real sleeper. Something like 0-60 in 5.4 secs.

The Car and Driver 0-60 times beat both the times in the article NFS4 linked to, but I don't think you can do a direct comparison as Edmunds may have used different test methods. My new car is the fastest I've owned. I have less than 1K miles on it and I'm trying to baby it, but it takes very little effort to get to 80 MPH.

I think the C&D 0-60 time was 5.3 seconds.

For any type of rolling race, the WRX will be at a disadvantage. From a dig, you may get a car length or 2 on a TransAm/Z28/Cobra only to be passed by the 1/8mile mark.

Not trying to hose out WRXs, they're fun cars, but they're not as awesome as everyone trumphs them up to be. There are people who have run 12.8x in stock Camaro SS's, but like you mentioned, the majority of it lies within the driver.

Oh, and launching WRXs hard can be a deathwish... they don't call it the "glass tranny" for nothing ;) :Q

You know, the more I go to the track, the more I see how big a disadvantage AWD can be. It only helps on starts if you're willing to destroy your clutch and it's all parasitic after that. Guys at the track with near stock WRXs, Evos, who don't hammer it out of the hole run slowish times, 14s for Evos and 15s for Rexs.

Its the same way for Honda S2000s... if you don't perform a clutch roasting 7k rpm slip you can't get a good launch with some wheelspin. Cars like these simply weren't designed for draging all the time. They're still fine cars, just hard to maintain at some points.

According to Motor Trend (who utilizes corrected figures) issue June 2003:
Mitsubishi Evolution
0-60mph 4.59
1/4 mile 13.08 105.12
0-100 12.45

BTW - A footnote noted that the Evo's launch rpm was 5,000.
