Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 2060 or Dell 2405

I currently have the big Mit 21" CRT along with a Dell 1905. I eventually want to replace the CRT because it takes up so much space on my desk, but I keep it because it's supposed to be better for the occassional game I play. The vast majority of my work is programming, business applications & website development.

I see that many people are recommending the 2405 for the 7800GTX (in spite of the Tom's review).

Should I consider going with the 2405, or wait another 6-12 months for better performance on the LCD's?

I have a 2405 and really like it. My wife has the 1905 and as nice as it is.. no comparison to the 2405.

She kinda looked at me crazy when she saw the 2405, she usually could care less about computer stuff.

Her eyes got big and she insisted she wanted one and NEEDED one.

If the only issue with your nice quality big CRT is desk space, hold of as in that 6-12 months and you will see SED's and Shallow CRT (google both of them) , why buy a tftlcd this late in tyhe day, your 21" is sweet i bet from mitsubishi.

There is alwasy something better coming out down the road but I have the 2405 and love it.

I say go for it.

why hold off? probably because they will be pretty damn expensive when when they come out?

Any ways. I've got a 2405 I can't compare it to any other monitor I have ever seen, its simply amazing.

Because only a n00b would use a crt this long esp a nice 21" then buy a tftlcd thats costly like that dell pos, then want a sed or shallow crt later in 2006, they claim the seds, shallow crt are gonna be cheaper in compairison to tftlcd (did you even google this tech )

Apples far superiour displays cost less in compairison inch for inch.

Fact is some peeps think tftlcd is the be all and end all and it never will even get the chance to be as the seds and shallow crt is being adopted by many and samsung started the ball rolling.

Go read the links in the above post and learn something good.

I would love the nice 22" CRT mitsubishi do but its kinda late now i can use my 19" till new tech is here its not far from 2006 now.

JBT, i dont get why you would buy a top model gpu like yours to game on tftlcd and thats IMO and i know others feel the same, i wouldnt waste my 6800U on them.

Like you said its your opinion. I personally think it looks great and offers me exactly what I am looking for. I don't see any ghosting and it looks beautiful. I realize others feel the same as you.

I have looked at shallow CRT before and know all about it. It does look like a excellent technology but I doubt it will be all that inexpensive to start off, even if prices do drop relatively quickly.

I got the 2405 for about 600 bucks and my X800XT only cost me $300. Its not like I spent a bunch of money. Infact the 2405 was a gift, so you can take that up with my fiance. She wanted to buy it and I certainly wasn't going to argue. With the way I upgrade I will probably have a shallow CRT etc as well. But right now there isn't any on the market so I have to live with my poor old 2405 which I think is excellent... poor me 🙁

Also what are you talkign about? Apple LCD's cost less inch per inch???? Even if I got the 2405 for MSRP it is much less than thier 23" version.

Since no one is proving any real information..

You already have the Dell 1905?

I believe that most* Dell 1905 use a PVA Samsung Panel.
Given the specs on the Dell 2405, I have always felt it uses a similar panel.

Thus, a 2405 will have very similar positives and negatives as a 1905. If you can't stand to play games on the 1905, I doubt the 2405 is a good choice.

Anandtech just posted a review today of a different option in the 1920 by 1200 class...the HP L2335 uses a SIPS panel which is supposedly better for gaming/video (than other LCD). Good news is that the panel is used by Apple's 23" Cinema display which makes finding a usable display model is fairly easy.

BeHardware also has a review up of both the Dell 2405 and the home version of the HP L2335...

* apparently Dell shipped some 1905 using an AU panel
