mites or bugs???

My gf keeps finding these small red bugs/spider/mites (whatever they are) in our apt. I have seen them outside before, but I do not know what they are. They are completely red and really small. When you squish one, it look like a really small spot of bright blood. What are these?

If they were bed bugs, I would assume you and your girl friend would be getting bit by them. If you aren't, then I wouldn't think they ar bed bugs. Here is some info on bed bugs:

From that article, bed bugs are really red, but a dark reddy brown color. It sounds more like spider mites. http://images.google.com/image...hl=en&q=spider%20mites

I had some invade my garden and shed last year. They are harmless to people and pets as they don't bite, but they can devestate vegatation.
