Mistifying problem with Asus A7V8X-X

I tried to build a system using an Asus A7V8X-X mainboard - I put an AMD 2500+XP in it and 512MB pc2700 RAM and a FX 5700 Ultra. The system just won't boot up. It just beeps at about a beep per second. I tried a different XP 2000+ on it with different RAM as well - no luck. Then I tried to put the XP 2500+ on a different board - won't work either. Is it possible that something was wrong with the MB and it killed both the CPU and the RAM, or am I missing something. I doubt it killed them, because it didn't kill the second set of CPU and RAM I used - just didn't run with them.

You used the same psu each time?

Have you ever tried that cpu before?

does it post at all? anything on the display before it starts beeping?
