Mistake buying DVD+RW?

I recently purchased a DVD+R/RW drive, and opted for it over DVD-R/RW because of +RW's greater features. However, now I am noticing the price difference between the +R/RW media and the -R/RW media. I am wondering should I return the +RW drive, get a -RW, and just live without the features?

Newegg sells a 50 pack of DVD-R's for $50, and the cheapest I can find DVD+R's for is around $2 each. The cost of the +RW discs is pretty much the same as the -RW discs.

If it makes you feel any better. the cheapest DVD-R is often crappy. I'd stay away from it for now. However, it's true that good quality DVD-R is still usually cheaper than +R media.

Also, check my sig for additional info.

you should have bought new sony drive that suppports both DVD-RW and DVD+RW. It is also probaly the fastest dvd writer out there and according to PC world it blows away competetion. Yeah I think newegg has them for 365$! Steep but definately worth it!

Sony just release +/- combo burner even Sony is at + side.
Sony's + or - RW media is same price.
Sony's website has -R media but +R even Sony is at + side.
So what do you think of the + standard?

Well, 4X DVD-R media is even more expensive.

The Sony seems OK, but remember that DVD-RW/DVD-R pretty much does the same thing as +RW/+R. So it's not as if you're gaining much in terms of functionality.

I'd rather spend less and get a machine that does either DVD-RW/DVD-R or +RW/+R, rather than pay more to do both.

I'd say just stick with your + drive and get name brand bulk mail order + media. The price is only a little more than name brand bulk - media.

Stick it out, if you're going to switch, at least wait until something ends the feud between + and -. I would even opt for the worse technology if it would only standardize...

The ability to add to the disc without having to erase the entire thing first was the main feature of + that I wanted. I thought about getting one of the combo +/- drives but didn't because then I'd be buying both types of discs and figured that would waste even more money.

The drive so far has worked great, and 2.4x is pretty quick. It writes a full dvd in around 25 minutes. I haven't had any of the videos I've created work in my PS2 yet, but according to www.vcdhelp.com, my PS2 version isn't compatible with any recordable DVD. My burned DVDs have worked very well in all the other DVD players I've tried them in.

I suppose I'll just wait and see. OEMs are going to start having to bundle + drives to get more of them in the market before the price of the media comes down, I think.

I have the Sony DRU500A. I personally burn mostly to dvd-r because of the price. I love to burn the +RW though. It is very quick in comparison and doesn't have to finalize the disc. Both formats work fine in my standalone DVD player.
