With the pile-on of posts in this thread, along with what other people also have written they are hearing... I don't believe this is sarcasm.
Then it's a sad state of affairs for our country.

Maybe if they stopped robbing stores, killing rival gang members, and trying to kill cops, they'd be less vilified.
As others have already said, the inner-city black community is its own worst enemy. Their race-baiting 'leaders' are abusing them in the worst way - taking advantage of them for their own agendas, including getting themselves 1%ers rich.
I could name your solution "The Wild Wild West Scenario".
Actually, your solution has some unintentional circular logic to take into consideration:
Under your hypothetical scenario, it's likely that anarchy will follow. The criminal element will naturally take control, due to their willingness to go a step further than any normal citizen would no matter how much higher things escalate and the fact that the criminal element are already well armed and well positioned to take control of the territory they're located in.
Cries for the police to take back the streets from the criminal element will be heard, martial law is declared, the criminal element go back to their old ways, the cops go back to their old ways, some kind of order is restored for awhile and the whole process repeats itself until the real reasons for having this cycle exist in the first place get taken care of. And that will never happen as our politicians are more concerned with keeping a hold on office via appeasing the folks who really matter: the very rich who the pols MUST suck up to, and whoever else is left, other than the folks who don't vote, who just so happen to be the folks that suffer the most from the aforementioned repeating cycle of despair and abandonment.![]()
You do know Ohio is an open carry state and Walmart allows open carry of real guns. I guess its not allowed while black.
I just saw this on the news. Different city, but another "good kid" who pulled a gun on somebody and got shot to death.

Also had a history of crime at just the age of 16. Everything in his record says he's the antithesis of good kid.
good, glad to see one less thug this christmas.

and 2 less pigs. Almost evens out.
Wait, cops are still ahead with a dead 12 year old, an unarmed man in a walmart. Also that guy shot getting out of the car.
The people rioting are mad because the cop didn't die. Some of these people want cop blood. They are insane.
Oh look, another police shooting. Time to riot and get five seconds of fame on instagram.
You can hear the person video taping saying "god damnit they are throwing bricks now" Yes. Hope they find the domestic terrorists throwing bricks and fireworks into a crowd of civilians and police.
Yes, a Police Officer was hit in the head with one, taken to the hospital. People want to rio, just to riot. When facts clearly show to this point, that the shooting was justified. But because it was a white cop, and a black man, they flood to the streets without any factual knowledge. If they had, I don't see how they could even blame the Officer at all. Just more sheep acting like idiots, making themselves look bad again. It is time for them to blame themselves, instead of whitey.
Well it doesn't have to be that way. I'd expect a huge pile of bodies initially. Someone walks into a bank and points a gun (which they would have anyway) and decides to take hostages. Someone says "Fsck that" and one less perp. And it's completely non racist. The color of someone trying to take you hostage or rob or hurt you won't matter. The deed gets the reward. Now many would never use a firearm under any circumstances, but if you recall what happened on the 9/11 flights there were those who chose to attempt overpowering the terrorists. If someone were to open fire in a movie theater the chances of them getting many shots off are nil. The gangs? Pfft. Six months into this and the overwhelming majority of people who think there are no consequences to their violence are done, and that would include trigger happy vigilantes.
And best of all, no evil police, ten of which should let themselves be killed for everyone they shoot. Take off every cop for great justice!
BTW, this is a tongue in cheek proposal, however if the choice was given between allowing armed citizens as I facetiously proposed vs the "10 to 1" cop death ratio, I'll take my idea.
I couldn't tell jack from that video. I'm inclined to accept the "official" version of events, but I do wonder why that cop's body camera wasn't on.
Unfortunately, current body camera technology is still too limited. Their (compact) batteries support a maximum run-time of about 4 hours. If light-weight batteries could somehow be improved to support 12+ hours of recording time (in other words, more than a full shift) the cameras themselves could be modified to always be on, not under the control of the wearer.
Even the title is inflammatory. Guns down? How about defended himself lawfully. Guns down sounds like he just killed him for no reason.
also, the activation process is probably brand new to people and/or changes frequently..especially from device to device.
imagine being in a stressful situation, you run out of your house and realize "aw shit, I forgot my (etc.)!" Until you develop that muscle memory from doing something routinely over a long period of time, you are going to be prone to forgetting things.
The video clearly shows the 18 yoa raise his arm, pointed level at the officer...as you would if you were aiming to shoot. I think one of the news sites had it enhanced and blown up to make it easier to see.
Hopefully there will be other, more clear, videos of the incident. The gas station appeared to be littered with cameras.
I think a possible solution to that is to have the body cameras rigged so that the cams will activate when the cam is outside of the vehicle the officer is riding/driving in, seeing as if the dash cam is already on?
As an aside and not in direct response to your post, I think that in a war zone, just pointing a finger at an armed combatant who is at a distance looking for threats can and does have deadly consequences. For me, every encounter a cop has to meet is a potential "mini-war zone" in and of itself, and If I were in a cop's shoes, it's how I would approach an encounter that warranted such suspicious alertness.
Now I'm not alluding to the idea that the victim of the shooting should'a known better than to do what he did if in fact he wasn't armed, or if he was carrying but didn't have handgun in hand, but damn if I'd put myself into the same "apparent" predicament he was in. That's just asking to get shot, unintentionally or otherwise.
From what I saw in the vid, I'd say if it was an accidental shooting, the victim was partly responsible for getting shot according to how he made himself look like he was a direct threat.
