We're actually looking into bamboo flooring for our house. Much cheaper than oak, looks nice and just as tough if not tougher. Worth checking out IMO.

yeah the bamboo is pretty nice. We are going with laminate because this is essentially a 5 year bandaid, Just to hold us until we will upgrade cabinets, flooring, and countertops.
I hear ya. We're always weighing what's worth upgrading vs. what isn't based on how long we'll be in the house. The only reason we're doing new countertops is that Home Depot near us has a 30% Corian sale running right now. D:
