Missing text messages / Battery Life post ICS

I am trying to find a specific text message and it seems that for this particular contact they only go back to 8/6/12. The message I'm looking for was back in early July. Does Android delete messages after a certain time period or are they just hidden?

Also has anyone else noticed a drop in battery life after being upgraded to ICS? I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 with Sprint and I could easily get 1.5 to 2 days on a charge. After they pushed out ICS it seems like I'm getting a day max before having to charge it. My usage hasn't been any different.

Do you use the stock messaging app? If so I think there's a limit on by default, but on mine it's pretty large and I'd be surprised if you reached that limit in 2 weeks. Anyway, in the app hit the menu button and go to 'settings'. There should be a tick box for "delete old messages" and on my current rom it's enabled with a limit of 500 messages. Yours might be lower, or something else might be going on but that's the easiest to check.

Thanks for the info gorcorps. Yes I do use the stock messaging app. The Text message limit was set for 200 messages per conversation and the tick box was checked for delete old messages. A bummer that I've lost those previous messages but I'll deal with it. It would be nice if it popped up a message saying I was getting near the limit and if I wanted to archive old messages. Perhaps there is a different messaging app that has that kind of feature?

try handcent or chompsms...both have a ton of features, not sure about that one specifically though.

remember that if you install a 2nd messaging app, you should disable notifications in the stock app otherwise you'll get multiple notifications for every sms.

Yup, and at least in Handcent there's a built in toggle for "disable stock notifications" so you don't have to mess with your system settings. I also like that you can set a specific notification tone per person, which I haven't been able to do with the stock messager (just ringtones).

I believe you also have to disable the stock SMS. I'm speaking from a GoSMS perspective but I believe it works the same way for Handcent. Disabling on the goSMS side supresses the stock SMs notification. However when you reboot you'll still get a notification. Thus it's best to turn off the stock SMS notification from within the messaging app itself.

Also yes, there's tons of features. I haven;'t touched Handcent since Feb 2011, but GoSMS is getting bloated and kinda bad too.

I've got the Tmo SG2 and battery life is better with the ICS ROMs than Gingerbread.
Though there is an extended battery available for it.
