Missing tabs in IE6 Internet Options

Trying to help a friend who is missing the "General", "Privacy" and "Programs" tabs under IE^ "Internet Options". I've googled til I'm blue in the face and have found that others have had this same problem but can't find any hint of an answer. Anybody know how to get these tabs back ? Thanks.

I had this problem for the past couple of days. I brought the tabs back by editing the registry.
(fire up regedt32 first, of course)
Go to //HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Policies/Microsoft/Internet Explorer/Control Panel
You'll see there are a number of keys each of which corresponds to one of the missing tabs. Just delete these keys and restart your IE.

I said "I brought them back" instead of "I solved the problem" because I don't think that was it. I'm suspecting I'm hit by some virus or malicious code attack.

Thanks. I stumbled upon a reg file that is supposed to correct this problem. I'm going to try to get it to him this evening. I wanted to email it to him but he don't know his own email address and he's too dumb for me to talk thru the process of going into OE -> Accounts to find it. I'll give him the reg reg file on a floppy along with instructions on how to run it, then hope and pray he doesn't screw up.
