missing some features in Asus A8N-SLI non-deluxe mobo

i am using the A8N-SLI non-deluxe and i am missing the PEG Link feature. Is this feature available for this board? I am using ati x600 graphic card.
 
This feature is missing off the 1001 BIOS which is still the only production BIOS for this board. I'm running off the "old" Beta version which does have the PEG link, the BIOS I'm using has now been replaced on Asus's web site with a newer Beta BIOS that I haven't upgraded to as I'm OK with the version that I've got. I will upgrade if and when they ever release a new production BIOS (I've had an extended moan on this board and to Asus about the lack of production BIOS upgrades but I've given up now).
 
Ohh now I've checked ........ there is at last a new (non-deluxe) production BIOS on the ASUS Web site at version 1004, so I guess I'll be putting that on now.
 
What does the PEG link stuff do anyway? What's it for? I just wonder because it isn't a setting I have done anything to in my BIOS but my system does have stability problems and I wonder if this has anything to do with any of my problems. Is it worth looking into?
 
Not sure of the details (I think there's something on the ASUS web site), but it overclocks (in some way) your graphics card. There was some discussion when the motherboard was reviewed as the default setting (Auto) overclocks the graphics board slightly. They may have changed the default in later BIOS versions (these things never seem to be documented). You can disable it completely though in the BIOS (unless you've got the 1001 non-deluxe BIOS where the option was missing completely).
 
it change the default speed of PCI-E bus hence improve graphic card performance. You can do the same manually using nTune
 
I just wonder if the PEG Link stuff has anything to do with any of the instability problems on this motherboard. I mean, I am sure it wasn't part of the reference design by nVidia. It was an ASUS innovation added to the motherboard. Yet the drivers many use (and are encouraged to do so) for the motherboard are the reference drivers provided by nVidia. If there was any driver support for this feature it wouldn't be included in the nVidia reference driver kit. I think when I go home tonight I will go in my BIOS and try turning this feature off completely and see if anything changes stability-wise.

That's true, overclocking your video card using either the PEG link or the nVidia Ntune will in most instances cause instability.

You can use coolbits, but it won't allow much overclock

Try using Powerstrip instead if you're overclocking your video card.
