I built my WHS, with a Gigabyte EP35C-DS3R mobo, and I first put in one 640GB WD AAKS HD with XP on it for testing.

Then I filled all six main HD bays with Hitachi 2TB HDs. I then did a test-install of Win7.

Then I decided to download and try unRAID. I followed the instructions for preparing my flash drive, and put it in the server, booted, went to BIOS and set the flash drive as the boot drive, and then booted unRAID.

I opened a web browser to the control panel of the unRAID server, and I went to the "devices" menu, and assigned the first HD to parity, and the next two HDs as data drives 1 and 2.

When I went to the "main" page, to start the array, it shows the number of sectors, and it said that it couldn't start the array, due to the parity drive being smaller than the other drives. (It needs to be the largest drive on unRAID.)

530KB, exactly, are missing from the HD.

I suspect HPA issues.

Is it the BIOS, or Windows 7? Does Windows 7 secretly "tattoo" your system drive using HPA?

No reallocated sectors according to SMART.
