Hi, All

All of sudden "My Documents" icon disappeared from my desktop on a Win 2000 Pro machine. Even though the short cut is still there under "Desktop" folder in Explorer but it just wouldn't show the icon on the desktop. I could not find any reference to this issue on Microsoft site. There were several reference regarding "My Documents" icon on Win98 machines.

Something odd must have happened. Right now Explorer launches actually faster than before when "My Documents" icon did show.

Greatful for any help
TIA

To re-create the "My Documents" icon, use any of the following methods:
Method 1
Right-click an empty area on the desktop, point to New, and then click My Documents Folder on the Desktop.

Method 2
Click Start, point to Programs, and then click Windows Explorer.
Locate the My Documents folder.
Right-click the My Documents folder, and then click Add Item to the Desktop.
Method 3
Click Start, point to Programs, and then click Windows Explorer.
Locate the My Documents folder. Right-click the My Documents folder, and then click Copy.
Right-click an empty area on the desktop, and then click Paste.
Click Yes when you receive the following prompt

"The My Documents folder cannot be copied to the desktop. Would you like to create a Desktop item that points to the My Documents folder instead?"

trick #1 will work on any version of windows because it is just creating a shortcut to the folder...

Not really! Because "My Documents" is a system short cut by itself.

Actually I have found the cure for this. In Win2000 the option of showing "My Documents" icon is hiding inside of "Folder Option" dialog box. Somehow this option was cleared that made the icon to disappear. I rediscovered this option when browsing other folder settings.

Thanks
