I just bought a Linksys wireless router with the 4 port switch to add to my existing network at the house. I currently have a 3com Lan Modem that has faithfully been sharing a 56K connection across the network for a couple years now. I got the Linksys router with one Linksys card for a laptop. I plugged in the wireless router to the wall and installed the card. I went into the settings for the Linksys router and turned off DHCP and changed the IP address to 192.168.1.254. Unplugged it from the wall and installed it in the wiring closet and taking the opportunity to plug some of the computers into the faster switch. The old 3com router has a patch cable running from port 1 to the uplink port on the Linksys router. The laptop can see all of the computers, print server, and internet just fine. However I can't seem to find the Linksys router at all on the network so that I can configure the thing. Its not on 192.168.1.254. I have however found sometihng on 192.168.1.31 but reverse dns doesn't provide any ID and going to http://192.168.1.31/ does not bring up the menu that one would expect to get from the Linksys router. Any suggestions other than disconnect the routers and reset the Linksys one and try again? I think I should enable the WEP and change some of te default values so its not completely open to the world.
