missing cd-rom

I have a lite on 40x cd-rom and in win explorer or my comp. I can't use that drive. I can only my burner. But I see that it is connected through post and via ide tool. I run win xp sp1 but in win 98se I can use both drives. And this install of win xp is only 2 days old. Any ideas?
