there is an old lady on the next block over... and two of her neighbors say she has him... but she denies it and there is no way I can prove it. Thanks for posting this. It gives me hope.

I sure hope it turns out that the lady has her, I can imagine how you feel not knowing. We thought one of ours had gotten out a few weeks back. We literally turned the house upside down looking for her. As the hours passed we grew more frantic sure that she had gotten out when my sister-in-law dropped off my brothers PC that afternoon. After 3 hours of searching the house and outside yard my wife went out and started driving around the neighborhood hoping to maybe catch a glimpse of her. I started in the basement searching the house yet again, moved to the main floor, and finally upstairs. As I came back down the stairs who do I see coming around the corner but the cat we had now spent over 4 hours looking for. The only thing we could figure out is that she somehow has a way to get up inside a Lazyboy couch we have. We actually turned that couch over early on looking for her since it is one of the places she runs to hide when something scares her.

Why is it that lost dogs mean more than lost cats ? Seems a lot of cat owners (and I'm sure there are exceptions) don't care much for the whereabouts of their pet unless it goes missing for days. I'm not talking about what happened in this article... just something I've seen... interesting phenomenon. Dogs rule. 😉

Anyway... about this story... score one for technology.

here is a little about what I do... taken from a web page of mine...

My family has long been into animal rescue. We mostly take in all the kitties that are homeless, neglected or abused. We pay all of their vet bills from our pockets to get them healthy, fixed and vaccinated. They live with us until we find them homes. This sometimes can take over a year, because we are more strict on to whom we will give an animal then a maffia boss with his virgin daughter. All the ones that are 'special' ie; missing a paw or tail, emotional distressed and for whatever reason are unplaceable live here forever. We currently have TWELEVE kitties (that is NOT a misprint; TWELEVE) Last year we placed six kitties and two dogs although we normally only deal with cats. It is VERY expensive as we are just private people who love cats and not affliated with anyone, but it is more rewarding than a new house or fancy car.

...Since Martin left, we have eleven left. Because we get somethat are strays, feral and stricly outdoor cats, we allow them to be indoor/outdoor models. Usually, when I brew the morning coffe, I will let 1/2 of them out. They come home for lunch, then again for dinner and they have a 10:00PM curfew. Martin is WAY too friendly... just the type to go to an old lady offering food. All the neighbors for two blocks on either side of us know us and what we do, so they look out for our cats, and since I work from home, I keep an eye on the kids. When they tell me the old lady has him, I can believe it. We had Martin since he was a kitten... six years.. so it is rough, especially on my daughter.

There are a lot of cat owners that still think that cats need to be let outside. Cats traditionally have been considered to be roaming animals and very few communities have laws regarding them running loose. On the otherhand there are a ton of leash laws regarding dogs so most responsible dog owners keep their dogs leashed or fenced.

10 cats, 2 dogs, 2 guinea pigs, 3 red earred slider turtles, and 1 zebra finch in our menagerie. 1 dog came from the DC shelter, the other just appeared at our house and no one answered the flyers and ads we took out. All of the cats have been either ferals we rescued or strays that just appeared and no one wanted to claim. The turtles and guinea pigs came from people at the elementary school my wife works at. The work you are doing is a wonderful thing. 🙂

Holy crap, if I tried to keep two of my three cats inside they would break a window to get outside I kid you not. Cats gotta roam. The third is an old woman-like cat that just rotates beds upstairs every night... almost never comes downstairs.
