Missing BOINC deadlines

Are the BOINC deadlines real? Is it ok that tasks are not completed before the deadline? Googling did not clarify

Yes, they are set by each project andt usually not much leeway is given. Normally once a deadline is passed the task is resent, if you get yours returned before the resent task is returned you probably get the credit and the resent task is cancelled. I've seen this happen with some projects but not all.

If the project supports "trickling", the deadline may be extended. This is the case for some PrimeGrid projects, and maybe for that climate modeling project.
