I wonder what was in that letter her ex sent...

Miss N.C. Resigns Title, Cites Relationship
Miss North Carolina resigned her title Tuesday, citing a former relationship that was ``physically and emotionally abusive.''
Rebekah Revels, 23, said in a statement she had recently learned her ex-fiance had contacted the Miss America Organization ``in a calculated attempt to defame my character.''
``It is not my desire that my personal life or the physically and emotionally abusive relationship of which I was once a part should be used to bring any degree of reproach upon a program that I truly admire,'' Revels said.
She said she hoped her case would help other women ``who might find themselves in the same situation and that they will be motivated to seek help, as I did, to dissolve a volatile and potentially harmful relationship.''
She did not elaborate, and no one answered the telephone at Revels' mother's home.
John Healy, a Miss America Organization spokesman, said Revels' ex-fiance contacted pageant officials by e-mail on July 19. He would not disclose the contents of the message.
Healy said Revels was not forced to resign.
George Bauer, interim president of the Miss America Organization, said in a written statement that the organization's board met Monday night and discussed Revels' case.
``Upon review of the information, the board agreed that it was in the best interest of all parties concerned that Ms. Revels not represent North Carolina in the upcoming Miss America competition,'' Bauer said.
The first runner-up, Misty Clymer of Raleigh, will become Miss North Carolina and compete for the Miss America in September, Clouse said.
In her statement, Revels apologized to her family, friends, the Miss North Carolina Organization, the Miss America Organization and fellow residents of North Carolina.
Revels entered the Miss North Carolina pageant this year as Miss Fayetteville and won the state title June 22 along with $12,000. It was not known if she will have to return the money.
Revels, a 2001 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, was the fifth Miss Fayetteville to win the Miss North Carolina crown since the pageant began in 1937. The last Miss Fayetteville to win the title was Heidi Sue Williams, Miss North Carolina 1992.
Revels beat out 33 other contestants for the title and said she will work during her tenure to increase awareness of Alzheimer's disease.
She is a past winner of the Junior Miss Lumbee, Miss Lumbee, Junior Miss St. Pauls, Miss St. Pauls and Miss University of North Carolina at Pembroke contests. Last year, she taught 10th-grade English at Lumberton High School and planned to resume her career in education after the Miss America pageant.
