Putin really has done a favour for his pals in the West. All of them now can try and claim every domestic issue is now 'trivial' and 'unimportant' compared to the invasion of Ukraine. It's let Johnson off the hook for breaking his own laws during lockdown, all talk of Tory rebellions over the issue have now disappeared.

It really does emphasise the lesson that if you get into political trouble, the most important thing to do is employ delaying tactics and do everything you can to kick an awkward issue 'into the long grass' - because before long some other big story will come along to shift the news agenda and knock your scandal off the front pages.

It is shocking to me that these senators are such cowards. They have some of the most powerful positions in the country yet they genuflect for an in effectual leader that pushed our democracy to the brink. If the GOP unified they could denounce Trump and move on.

The lack of self respect among GOP politicians is sad. It's even more sad that people vote for these worms, thinking they are "strong."
