Oil & Gas thread:12-17-08 OPEC & non-members agree to largest reduction in history 7 percent

'12-30-08 Gas prices rise as oil remains under $40, No reasons given yet other than they can'

This fact has been proven by myself and others using links to articles and verifiable sources to be false. Heck, some of the articles that the OP uses to support his claim, actually refute his claims (ie. The OP's claim that gas prices have risen 30 cents in FL then he posts an article that states that prices have actually dropped 34 cents). This is not the first time the OP has posted misleading information and lied to support his agenda.

Others in this forum have had their threads locked for such actions and repeated offenses have led to vacations (ie. ICRS), why does this OP get a free pass?

B/c of this misinformation and outright lies, the thread has turned into clusterfuck as myself and others have to spend the time to debunk/disprove these lies. He then calls individuals liars without being able to prove it and gets a free pass again.

Why is this allowed?

Situation resolved, thread in question locked.

Do people in P&N actually get this worked up over little things like this?

No, they get worked up over the fact that Dave is allowed to troll endlessly without repercussions. The guy is a habitual liar who has been proven to be such time and time again.

Unlike OT, where people will talk endlessly about the cellulite on Lohan, in P&N most posters are interested in expanding their knowledge and/or influencing others (hopefully with good arguments and data). Cordiality ranges from very to not much, but the OP of the oil thread is on a qualitatively different level than all other P&N posters, hence Capt's creation of a thread here.

If he does it that much, why is this such a big deal?

He who angers you, controls you. Do you really want Dave to have this much control over you?

Save the psychobabble for someone else.

The problem I, and many others, have with Dave is that in spite of the fact he is a known troll nothing is done about it while others are punished for much smaller transgressions.

Originally Dave's thread served the useful purpose of consolidating much of the oil commentary into one place. Over time it's morphed into something fairly ugly. Personalities aside, as long as the thread allows for debate and informational updates I'm fine with it.

That said, we'll try this. Information must be verifiable and from a credible source. In this myself or another moderator makes the determination of what meets that criteria. If we get back on track, the thread merits it's continued existence. If not, then it gets locked. If someone plays cute and believes that they will subvert this intention and get another member in trouble I can guarantee it won't work. The thread will be locked and vacations issued.
