Misfortunate Situation (Help me out with a ticket)

I got a ticket today for "UNSAFE PASSING ON RIGHT" on my way home from the gym. I was driving down this big street with 3 or 4 lanes and on the right is a parking lane. Because it was a red light the street was backed up quite a bit and so I went into the parking lane planning on making a right at the next street. (This of course is illegal) But, I saw a cop parked inside one of the lanes and so I decided to park as well.

I waited for about a minute to see if the cop was going to do anything and then I thought to myself I could safely go now. So, I then backed out into the rightmost lane and made the right like you're supposed to, but to my chagrin, the cop followed me and turned on her lights. She told me "you're not fooling anyone, you know that you were using the parking lane to make a right." Technically, I didn't though, as I parked (but sadly I didn't get out of the car but waited there instead) and made the turn legally. I plan to contest the ticket but want to hear any suggestions or feedback regarding this stituation. What do you guys think?

So, let me get this straight, you're mad because what you WANTED to do was illegal, and the act that you put on to fool the cop didn't work. What are you going to tell the judge without lying? "The police officer should have been fooled by my pretending to park!!!! How dare he not be fooled!!!"

The thing is I never did anything illegal. My intention i guess was illegal but I prevented it by parking and then backing out and then making the turn legally. Is that so wrong? :disgust:

You got a poor attitude cuz you got your fingers pinched in the door and you want to try and weasel out eh?! Not much sympathy for you, but some tips.

Schedule a meeting with the magistrate to plead your case. Dress neatly, stay very calm and civil. State your case and explain it was an error in judgement. If you have a clean record to date you have a good chance of getting the ticket tossed in conjunction with the magistrate putting you on probation for X months; if you stay ticket free for that time period, it's completely removed, get another ticket and this one gets reactivated.

You could try and explain that you had planned on parking and running an errand then found that you made a mistake and had to leave instead. Overall, the police and magistrates are pretty good at picking up on lies, so the honest approach is the best........but it's your choice.

The real choice will happen next time you get in that same situation and consider whether to use the parking lane, or mellow out for a few and wait your turn,.......................like everyone else.

Well after this incident I know i'll never do that again but cut me some slack. I admit I was wrong but I never went through with the actual crime did I?

I for one am glad there are cops out there. I can't believe you are pissed because you got a ticket. Take it like a man and pay the fine, or go to court and say exactly what happened. Maybe they will go easy on ya.

If I saw this thread title, and I was the cop who gave you a ticket, Iwould be looking for your car and giving you bunches of tickets for every little thing you did. You need to learn some respect son.
