I just had a few unrelated questions about the forums:

1. why are spaces and underscores not allowed in usernames? I have seen some users that have them but they are all from early 2000 or before.

2. How far back do the archives go?

1) No idea

2) As far as you can imagine (Well at least since I started posting 😛).

Back in the day you could have anything in your name be it special characters and underscores or whatever you wanted. It's a feature that you can enable and disable with Fusetalk.

1) Before people started abusing it special characters were allowed. When the abuse started they changed the rules, but existing users (like me) were allowed to keep their names.

I think one of the main reasons were you could easily make a screen name like Viper GTS_ (_=space) and people were trolling with regular users names.

I believe someone did that with mastertech01's nick so they could trade with his good name.

If I remember correctly this was the specific reason that they put a stop to the spaces in usernames.

As for the archives question, I hear about members every now and then that must have been before my time (Guy Under the Bridge is one of them). I can find them in the member search, but can't find any posts by them. I figured either the archives only go back so far, or the mods deleted posts for whatever reason.

Looks like the archives go back to 7/1/2000. At least I cant find any posts before that.
