Mirror's Edge is awesome

The game's engine inmediately reminded me of Source and the art style reminded me of Portal, the gameplay is incredibly addictive and polished, you never fail because the game is badly designed, you just fail because of your inadequacy.

I loved the game, excellent graphics (bloom is a bit overdone) and runs smooth as hell even with v-sync and 4X AA and looks great (the 2D cutscenes could use some work though).

Combat is awesome, I haven't used guns (which I hear suck) but fighting with melee and evading enemies is great, the gameplay is pure and rewards skill.

The content is bit dull and repetitive but the incredible gameplay is what makes this game, great. The game might be short and the content might be repetitive but the gameplay and style of the game is so innovative that I'm surprised it got average reviews.

After this and Dead Space my faith for EA has been renewed :)

Indeed, both this and Dead Space are great games, but that hasn't done quite enough to make me happy with EA ;p.

Mirror's Edge is surprisingly good looking, and the jumping and such was fun (and legitimately intense for me at times). The combat dragged the game down, though, at least for me. Timing the disarms in some of the later fights became frustrating... And when a game frustrates me, it's doing something fundamentally wrong. Still, good game.

Very fun game. Spent a good 20hrs+ after finishing it doing time trials etc.

Well, you do have bullet time in the game, though I rarely remembered I had it. I'd usually activate it by accident at some point and be like "what, what happened?"
Also, I wish they made more use of those new enemies they introduced toward the end. They appear in two levels of the game, and they just have 1 short appearance the 2nd time.

Heights make me dizzy, and there were parts of this game where I felt a little sick to my stomach and had sweaty palms. I enjoyed the 75% or so of the game I played.

Great game. At the beginning I was only expecting some kind of PhysX demo that had nothing to do with gameplay. But it's one of the most original games that came out in the last two years or so, very addictive and fun. I would really like to see Mirror's Edge 2.

What about the control scheme? Does it work well with KB/Mouse or do you need a controller of some sort?

Keyboard and mouse is all you need. It works perfectly this way.

KB/M works fine. There really aren't too many buttons you need to use. Only 3 other than WASD.

I used my 360 controller because it was already plugged in and it worked wonders.

But like others have said, a keyboard is more than adequate, besides your wasd, you'll only use jump, crouch, disarm and attack

Keeps it simple, nice.

Boy, gamers sure are coddled these days. Some of my most memorable gaming moments were made overcoming frustrating games. I've always hated timing challenges though, so I'm with you there.

This makes me remember one of the most frustrating missions in a game I love - GTA III. It was the mission 'Payday for Ray" where you had to get from one payphone to another in a specified time-limit. I repeatedly failed that mission and god knows how many times I had tried to pass the mission. When I did finally pass the mission I had a few seconds to spare on the timer...made me freakin' happy! :)

I like the platforming but I hate the combat portions. Trying to nail a tricky jump while a bunch of assholes you have no hope of killing are shooting you from somewhere you cant possibly see or dodge just isn't fun. I suppose the game would be too easy or something if it was just platforming. I just wish I stood a chance at killing the bad guys.

Another tick against the game for me is that my lady can't watch me play, it gives her motion sickness. :( If I can't have my cheerleader at my side, sharing the story with me, I really don't have much incentive to play it.

I'm interested in this game, I like the movement aspect of FPS (say Quake 3 trick jumping, CS surfing etc), is it like those games?

Also, I know this game supports PhysX, do you lose much FPS using on-card PhysX with a GTX 280? I'd assume so since the GPU has to dedicate some processing power to PhysX instead of graphics.

PhysX just destroys my frame rate with my 8800gtx. As soon as one sheet of glass shatters my fps drops to a slideshow. You have a more powerful pc though, so I'm guessing you'll be fine.

Wow, is that even possible? My lady hates me when I'm gaming.

She:"Get out from that computer, you're like glued to that chair all day long!"
Me:"But I've only stood here for 30 minutes"
She:"IT DOESN'T MATTER, JUST GET OUT FROM THAT CHAIR." :(

This is a decent game. It's pretty exhilirating (sp?) at first but it gets old after awhile. You basically are being chased through the entire game. If not a building with a blue interior, then an orange interior, etc. I liked it but haven't picked it up after playing 5 hours in like the first week (and that was a month ago). It's a good, solid game. Maybe I'm spoiled. Or I just need to get into TF2 rehab or something......

Hmm, my PC isn't much more powerful than yours other than I have a 280, but I also run at 1920x1200. I kinda wish I had tried my 8800GTS640 as a PhysX card but my PSU does not have the juice and I just sold the card. Oh well, this game is down to $29.99CDN at the store (still $39.99US on Steam) so I'll give it a shot in the coming weeks, at least it's something different (I also need TF2 rehab).

i thought it was cool, but it's one of those games i wouldn't play again after beating it. the end was a little anticlimactic as well.
