Saturday morning I noticed my passenger mirror was missing. I bought a replacement mirror on eBay and it arrived today. Unfortunately the sticky pad it came with isn't strong enough to hold it in place. What other parts should I be looking for? This is for a 2010 Hyundai Elantra.

Sticky pad? There should be clips on the back of the mirror glass that engage that circular center piece. They can be a little tricky; different mirrors have to go in at different angles and whatnot to clip in. If there is an adhesive pad, it is likely just to dampen vibration...it's not what holds it in place.

You can probably get an entire mirror assembly for next to nothing (less than the glass from a dealer), but 1) you'd have to paint it, since it doesn't look like there is a removable painted 'cap' that can simply be swapped and 2) they are shitty. Fitment is 'meh' and the motors are cheap and loud.

Thoroughly remove the double-sided tape with a chemical like Goo Gone or a 3M glue removal product. Clean with alcohol, then use either 3M auto body trim tape or silicone sealant. With the silicone, hold the mirror in place for an hour with a sponge and some rubber gands.

the thief took the mirror+plastic mounting plate. the mounting plate has tabs on the back that hold it to that circular tilting assembly.

you bought just the glass where you're meant to break the old glass out of the mount and it would snap/glue right in

Exactly. If you can't find just the mounting plate, your best bet may be a junkyard where you'll have to buy the whole mirror but can remove the mounting plate and mirror as an assembly. You have heated mirrors so if that was option, keep that in mind when looking for a replacement.

The dealer may sell the mounting plate and mirror as an assembly.

You may be able to find the glass part with the plastic clip base if you look on eBay or ask some salvage shops. I wonder though why someone would just steal that? They could have been watching you.
