so i was looking for a knife set for my apt...(our current set suxors to the maxors)

i search around in ATHD just for the heck of it, and behold, a $230 set for $20 bucks thread on the first page? no way....well, i read other people's responses and reviews, these knives aren't that great and i think the $230 thing is a marketting gimmick or a mistake..
link to that deal..

i saw on TV ..well, saw it many times...the miracle blade II perfection series (aha for some reason it's a funny name...has "marketting gimmick" all over it..oh wait..what doesn't..)

anyways, i was wondering if they are any good?..

what knife set would you recommend?..i really liked the cutco series...probably it's the best among knife sets..but they're a bit too pricy for my wallet...(my previous roommate had a cutco knife set, well, he worked there soo..yeah..)

CUTCO!!! I had someone demonstrate Cutco knives to me, not on me though. They are very sharp. Although some would argue it's safer with sharper knives, these knives are very scary. Way out of your range though. I've seen the Miracle Blade III Perfection series infomercials, with their accuvue control grips and raised handles and slice and chop and juicer and all the rest of that crud.

Heh, I used to sell Cutco knives(yeah, yeah I fell for that crap) and they are pretty good, but I dont think they are worth the $$. As for the Miracle Blade knives, Im guessing that they are at about the same quality as those Ginsu knives or whatever they were called.

I was thinking about ordering these after watching the informercial a bunch of times. Their website is kinda shady...they won't give you a total before entering your credit card. Basically you have to choose what you want, enter your information and cc# and submit the order all in one action. Anybody have these knives? Are they good??

Forschner makes some great stamped knives. Dont diss them because they aren't forged. Cooks Illustrated (pretty anal people run that magazine) rated the 8" chef knife higher than any other (wustoff etc). Look into them for a good knife at a good price. Beware of any knife that "never needs sharpening" because eventually you will need to regardless and you will have the devil of a time doing it.

I can vouch for Ginsu knives. I was poor and needed some knives. Best $9 I spent. They cut above average, but its nothing compared to a geninue cutco.

I say don't buy them, if only to stop them from taking over out televisions. 3 out of the 5 local stations I get had the exact same Miracle Blade infomercial on this morning.

DanTMWTMP, have you purchased the Miracle Blade 3? Has anybody else purchased this? If so, please post a quick review. :)

I freakin' love the miracle blade info-mersh.

"...now I got something special for you...the Sportsman's Dream, Adirondack knife. It has an INCREDIBLY HEAVY BLADE...for cutting".

Like, why else would a knife have a "incredibly" heavy blade?

And when the guy is cutting formica or whatever..."This is FUN!".

I mean, come on. This was like, the second best info-mersh there was (right after the king, Don West). Can't beat things like "It has a scaler, for when you catch fish...and a bottle opener, for when you don't."

Damn. I gotta get the special edition of that stuff on DVD.

And will someone please bring back Don West from Shop At Home? (Although, honestly, I think if you compare Mr. West to O'Dell from the knife show, you could make a case for O'dell. There's just something about having a white trash Tennesee accent and chest hair).

So there you go.

STFU f'tard. Have you actually tried the knife sets? Or even SEEN one of the knife sets used in real life?

I doubt it.

Either way, I sharpen my own knives. These babies will be perfect when I'm done with them. :)

Within a few weeks after the release of such a 'great, new, only-on-tv-for-this-enormously-high-price' product there will be a cheap copy in stores which will last about 80% of the time the expensive one does, but costs only 5%. No reason for ordering that stuff usually, unless you like being ripped off.

Last infomercial I saw had a spectacular new way of working out: Aerobics with weights! You get a set of $10 weights and a little stepping thing ($5 at most), and you only pay around $99 for it! (You may be getting a training video too though!)
You already see results after 10 workouts!

Repetition is the key with these commercials. If you tell someone often enough that a product is great, they will before more vulnerable for your sales talk.

Tom O'Dell (and sidekick Sean) are classic, they're funnier than almost everything else on TV. His "Tomzilla" voice cracks my wife up.

But for the original question, I recommend the Cutco, yes they are expensive, but unless you loose one, you'll probably never have to replace it.

Holy CRAP....

I just got mine in the mail. Wood cutting board, woodblock, and a crapload of knives. I'm cooking steak tonight :D

These knives are fairly amazing. They're strong, light (enough), balanced remarkably well, and very, very sharp. I'm afraid the wood cutting board isn't going to last long. Good thing I have another backup, but it's plastic so that'll go faster than the wood board.

Anyhow, I think these knives will suffice until I have my own custom made.

I just got the Perfect Grip set today, showed up today that is, and they are pretty good. I had them on my gold box for $17.50 with free shipping, hard to pass up for that price. They are nice and heavy and are great so far.
