So my girlfriend (17) got an MIP last night and we live in Washington State. I was wondering what the punishment generally is and if she can get it differed.

Also she wants to be a teacher and I heard that you can't get your teaching license with an MIP on your record.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

I think i've read that if you go to court it will likely be dropped to a fine and community service or something...dunno how that affects her record though..

If you can afford it, get a lawyer...he/she'll be able to get it plead down and just offer up $$$ and community service, it should be okay.

I got a MIP within my first month of living in Arizona. They're very common here, seeing as how ASU and UofA are big party schools and alcohol is very easy to come by. When I went to court there were a couple other people with the same charges (MIP at a diamondbacks game). The first girl that pleaded for the alternative program (gets it off your record) got ankle sensor things, alcohol classes, and random drug tests for 3 months.

I ended up getting away scott free, but that's another story. Basically, do a little research and see if Washington has those little programs to get these things off your record. And doesn't it come off anyways when she turns 18?

Getting caught with alcohol gets you punished that bad? At least at my college, if you get caught on campus the absolute worst thing would be spending a night in jail.
