Minority Report, questions about the DVD

Hi everyone, got this movie today on DVD and watched it for the first time. I know there is a related topic here but I didn't see any of my questions in it and don't want to bury this at the end of that thread and probably not get a response. So...

1. Is the movie supposed to be as washed out as it is? It looks like the the bleached day scenes from Pitch Black throughout most of the film. I assume if it is supposed to be this way it's because the whole movie right up until the end is a flashback/memory of Cruise's character. Or did I just get a bad disc?

2. There were a couple of obvious dubs in this movie. The first I noticed is when the eye doctor is talking about his time in prison, he said something about taking a shower with someone with an 'attitude' too big to knock down with a hammer. It's pretty obvious from the dub and his mouth movements he originally siad 'erection' and I just want to know which (if anyone remembers) was said in the theatre release. Another one that stood out was soon after that scene, just before the cops release the spiders in the building, a pretty lame euphamism was used instead of the f-bomb.

Gonad the Barbarian, I can answer your first question, yes filters were used to give it that "washed out" look.

Wow, I never noticed that dubbing ... I figured the washed out look was stylistic .. it seems to be popular today. I'll have to watch it again tomorrow and see if I can tell about the dubs. I'll let you know.

Thanks for the replies, I assumed that was the case for #1. #2 is still a question though because apparently this DVD came from Walmart, and although it strikes me as extremely unlikely, given their history of carrying edited CD's, and the blatantness of the dubbing (I was on my fourth beer when I noticed them) I am wondoering if that trend has now carried over to DVD's.

I got my DVD from CC, so I'll have a look at it tomorrow and see if the dubs are obvious. Keep in mind I didn't see the theatre release, but if you give me a chapter #, I'll make sure I take a close look.

Those walmart CD's are specifically labeled "edited" tho aren't they? Does/did the DVD have any such markings?

The attitude/erection dub is around 1:10 into the film, the f-bomb dub is shortly there-after, as the two cops are talking as they are walking into the apartment building. I see nothing on the DVD or packaging that would lead me to believe this is anything other than the standard 2-disc widescreen release.

Just out of curiosity, what's the UPC code on your copy of Minority Report? Mine is: 6 67068 99892 4. I only ask because if there are different versions of the DVD, they should carry different UPC codes.

Always thought UPC codes varied from product to product so that there would be ways to track certain copies for rebate purposes and stuff hrm..

TheVrolok, I don't think it's that high-tech yet, the reason I asked was because of the release of T2: Judgement Day, there were two different versions released, w/ 2 diff UPC codes, hope this helps

UPC code matches, maybe the changes were made to the theatre release to grab the PG-13 rating? I can see how the dubbings may have been missed on the big screen, but they are obvious as day to me watching it on DVD. I don't think they even had the same actor's voice for the attitude/erection dub.

Off topic, but T2 was a strange release, some were 2 discs and some were a flipper, but both were initial UE releases with the tin slip-case.

The F bomb can be presenty in PG-13 movies, although I think that the context and number of usages affects the rating.

It seems that if a PG-13 movie doesn't have at least one use of the F-word these days, something's wrong. I think the trend started with Forrest Gump.

Anyway, I only remember one use of the F-word in the theatrical release, and that was when Anderton was pushing the supposed killer for information (you crazy f***, or something like that.)

As Good As It Gets and Antwon Fisher (both PG-13) have three uses of the F-word. There could be others. Go figure.

so any verification if they really changed things between the theatrical release and the DVD? I wouldn't think there should be bad dubs or edits in a DVD release....
