So,
A divided Augusta Richmond County Commission approved a new ordinance Tuesday that requires protesters to apply for a permit 20 days before a demonstration. It also specifies an appeal process if a request is denied.

The city's lawyer said the old ordinance, which simply gave the sheriff authority to approve or deny protest permits, could be too vague to withstand a court challenge.

The point here being, it makes it easier to protest an event because there is an established procedure vs being at the whim of the sheriff. A step forward for civil rights, yes??

apparently not:
Twice in the past month, the commission's racial division had stopped the panel from adopting the new regulations. The five white commissioners supported the new law; all five blacks opposed it, saying they believed the changes were intended to stifle civil rights.

This is the kind of stuff that really pisses me off. the ordinance as set up IS a step towards CIVIL Rights, Establishing a set procedure vs leaving it to the whim of the SHERIFF is better, but apparently not to the black commisioners on the board.

so go ahead call me a racist, but this stuff does piss me off when blacks use their race this way.

I agree 100% with you .. There's a very educated black man who is an author and all this other stuff who lives in Beverly Hills.. I forget his name, but black people don't like him because he thinks that they use their race as an excuse whenever they can't succeed.. Which is true in a lot of cases..

And like you, i am not racist either.. I just can't stand the black people who use their race as an excuse for everything.. You don't see a Mexican scream racism because something didn't go the way he wanted it.. You don't see any other race doing it except the black race, and i'm not saying ALL of the black race either, it's the lazy people who don't want to strive and try to defeat whatever obstacle they came across..

That's just my opinion from observation, i'm not stating fact, i'm just stating how i feel..

Take Anger Management courses and get over it.

No one should have to apply for a permit, or ask the sherrif.

Congress shall make no law ... abridging the ... right of the people peaceably to assemble

Any of you recognize where that is from?

Yeah, but CONGRESS didn't make the law (for one thing). Plus, others' right to assemble can't infringe on my right to drive a public right-of-way or walk down a sidewalk.
