I have $400 to upgrade my computer, my wife won't let me spend more than that 😉 She said next Christmas I could upgrade to my hearts content so I want to upgrade what I can until then.

Currently I have an Asus Nforce 2 A7N8X-E deluxe mobo, Athlon XP2800+, 6800GT vid card, 1GB samsung pc3200 RAM, 120GB seagate 8mb cache 7200rpm HDD, sound blaster audigy gamer sound card, fortron 500W bluestorm PSU. My HDD and soundcard, PSU and vid card are fine so I'm mainly looking to upgrade my mobob and CPU and RAM.

I was thinking about the Epox EP-9NDA3J Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce3 Ultra mobo http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813123230

For the CPU I was thinking about the Athlon 64 3000+ Venice 1GHz FSB 512KB L2 Cache Socket 939 Processor - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103537 Newegg has a combo deal on the expox board and cpu

and for the ram I was thinking about the OCZ Gold Series 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit System Memory - Retail

Total price $354.45

Well since you can't upgrade to a nforce4 board because of your AGP video card, I'd just wait.

You might consider selling your AGP 6800gt and replacing it with a 7800GT. And then buying a nforce4 board with the venice. Especially since you already have 1gb of ram.

7800GT and 1gb of RAM >>>> 6800GT and 2gb

IMO.
