Minor speculation on the "death of pc gaming"

I believe people should stop worrying about this topic. Here's my own bit of logic on it...

The best thing for PC gaming right now would be if all the major companies pulled out of the PC gaming market. Why? By removing the same, tired, old developers it might be possible for niche developers to emerge with some truly revolutionary games that don't fit the same molds most games are shaped by currently.

There will ALWAYS be a PC game market, but i think its quite possible that the current developers are not the right ones to keep the market alive.

Just thought i'd put it out there for those that think the end is near.

In compliance with the wishes of the majority of the posters in the PC Gaming forum, this thread has been closed. Feel free to post your thoughts in the "State of PC Gaming" thread that was put in place by popular vote.

If you dislike the policy of locking other "state of pc gaming" threads, feel free to motion to repeal this policy and voting will begin again.
After a month (starting May 21), if any of you guys wish me to rerun either of these polls, let me know and I will post them again (in case you guys seek to repeal the measures passed recently).

Thanks,

Thing is the niche or indie market doesn't need the big companies to pull out.
They are doing fine making the games.
What is happening quite a bit is that people don't notice the small developers because the small developers can't afford the advertising budgets.
One problem with gaming overall now is the focus on graphics.
Its no longer about gameplay, but about how great your screenshots are.
I have seen many indie games that are fun to play but don't have awesome graphics.
As I said in another thread,
I think all game concepts should have to be played with sprites and blocks for characters.
If its not fun like that, then making it prettier isn't going to do much .

Good call. I mean shoot, look at portal... arguably one of the most fun games to come out recently and theres nothing special about it. Just an ingenious implementation of a simle idea. Thats the kind of stuff we need!

I'm not worried about it. Mostly I'm not worried about it because I don't see PC gaming dying in the forseeable future.

Most of the current PC gaming producers bitch and moan when a game doesn't sell well on the PC, but there are usually two reasons for it.
1) The game sucks
2) The game was released on console first, where everyone bought it early (see nearly any Bioware title)

The GOOD developers like Stardock, Blizzard, Relic and Valve don't bother worrying about the state of PC gaming. They'll continue making good PC games and they'll continue making record profits. Shitty developers like EA and Activision (even Crytek has made some pretty mediocre products, although their graphics are pretty) will bitch and moan about piracy and threaten to pick up and leave for the consoles. I say good riddance.
