Hey all, I recently built a new computer and I love it, except one minor flaw.

Sometimes when I click on a video or audio file, I get an explorer error... The file is not corrupt or anything, it just gives me an error. Please mind this is not a double click, but a single click. I think the preview for it (running windows 2000) is causing the error.

Anyway, here is my config, everything running at it's rated speed:
Athlon 1.33
MSI K7 Master DDR
512 megs Crucial PC2100 Cas2.5 ram (running at 2.5)
IBM 60 gig 60GXP HD
Hercules Gaming Theature XP
Netgear FA310TX
CardExpert Geforce 3

I think that is enough info. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Other than this minor problem, the computer is VERY stable.

Edit: I should also mention that all the drivers are up to date.

what exactly is the error you get? most likely this is a software issue and nothing to do with your hardware...

It is an explorer.exe error...

A window pops up saying explorer has created an error and will be closed. Then I lose 1/2 the stuff in my taskbar... the other half comes back...

If my taskbar stuff didn't leave, I would live with it, because anything that my computer was doing, is still working...

Is there any way to disable the preview thing? That would probably solve the problem also.

I have not tried Prime95.... I will and then get back to you...

It can run 3kmark2k1 for hours looping and I have encoded about 6 DVD's to Divx with no errors...

I will download Prime95 and try it out now

Umm... 16 hours to complete the test??? Ouch!

I can do 150000 factorial on the calculator fine... I can encode DVD's fine. I can play games fine...

Do I really need to run this 16 hour test?

Well, I'm running the test...

One thing I noted, I didn't set my processor speed etc when I first started... I started the self test and then I lost Audio. I then clicked on an MP3 and the preview thing gave me an explorer.exe error...

I then restarted, and set my CPU to an Athlon at 1333 mhz and now it is running and I still have audio... Strange...

Anyways, it is still running now.

Also, is there a way to turn off that preview thing?
