I was looking at an eBay auction the other night, and I noticed a Maxxum 9 auction running at $700 or so. It's a film camera so I was curious. Even though I've seen Minolta users raving about the 9 as an incredible camera, I didn't realize that its top shutter speed was 1/12000. That's amazing.

Is there some difference between film and digital that precludes that shutter speed for DSLRs? Canon only goes to 1/8000, which I think Nikon also boasts. I really doubt that Sony is going to introduce a professional DSLR with that kind of top end on it, unfortunately. It would be interesting if they did -- maybe the former Minolta engineers will reissue the 9's shutter again. :)
