Probably mentioned but a good place to check for what's new, coming, reviews etc is
dpreview.com
The forums there are a decent place for answers too.
These little Minoltas score high on compact-ness and coolness, but the optics are small enough that you are definitely giving up some quality vs. even other compact cameras. Eg the Canon S50 is a far more serious camera than the Minolta DimageX series - more real features, better lens, etc.
The other big issue is the memory cards - most Canons use CompactFlash, which is a little bulkier but waaaayyyy cheaper than most other formats.
But - I'm a big believer that the camera in your pocket takes a lot more pictures than the one sitting in your desk drawer at home .... the Minolta is certainly one to consider for the keep-it-with-you type camera to catch a lot of photos you'd otherwise miss. And this is the third gen of that camera (Dimage X and Dimage Xi) so presumably it should be pretty well worked out. The people I know that have bought them really like them, but you have to realize you're getting more of a snapshot camera - which is what most people want, anyway.
Steves Digicams can be worth a look too.
