I heard that the signs police put up that tell u your speed sometimes also include a cam to catch your license plate and ticket you by mail. Is their any truth to this?

lol I was actually asking if they had cameras or not, I heard that they had to get rid of stoplight cams for some reason in minnesota, I saw one flashing lights at people when they were speeding

I've seen 'em in several states and sped past many. I, too, was concerned about cameras on the backside but I've never gotten a ticket from one so I guess it's for data collection only.

I saw one of these on the side of the Hume Highway near Canberra a few weeks ago while some repair work was being done...my speedo read 61km/h the sign read 79km/h as I wizzed passed...I always wondered why when sitting on the 110km/h speed limit for NSW I would fly past other cars...now I know, It also explains why coppers seem to be drawn to my car like flies to sh!t.

In wisconsin, they have them up but all they do is flash if you're going ~7 - 8 over, and they don't take a photo, according to my friend whose dad is the captain of special investigations. we always go through them, and it flashes (like the flash on a camera) to scare people, we never got a ticket tho : )

There are units like with cameras in them. One of the towns near here has one and they move it around from place to place to catch speeders.

Around here they don't put cameras in them. It's more to scare people with "If this was a cop, you'd be caught" or to get people to realize that the speed limit is MUCH lower than what everyone actually drives for that section of road.

Just use this stuff and the cameras shouldn't be a problem.

WTF, the website doesn't allow you to buy a single can, instead they force you to buy 3!

yes they do.

It doesn't work.. If you can see a license plate with your eyes, the camera can photograph it.

Do you understand how cameras work?

The only thing I am having a hard time believing is that the photoblocker spray is "good for life". Maybe if you never ever wash your license plate... but with the magnitude of bugs n crap I run into if I dont brush off my plate every once in a while then the cops would give me a ticket as the bug guts would just collect and block visibility of my plate

Yeah, I don't know anything about this spray, but they do make some LED covers that flash over each half of the plate very fast, so that the naked eye sees the numbers, but a camera would only get 1/2 the digits on the plate with a snapshot.

I can't speak for Minnesota, as I don't live there, but here in California you can only receive a ticket from a camera if there is a giant sign posted near the camera saying that you will receive one for violating the law.

Are you one of those people who keeps your camera's flash on all the time? Have you ever seen a flash from a traffic camera?

No, but that has nothign to do with what you posted:

This is not always a true statement, as eyes and cameras do not work the same way. See my post above about the LED covers that block half your plate.

Eyesight is a rather continuous process, while cameras are rather discrete. I've made no statement or assertation other than one to refute your "fact."

Shens. There's no way there's an 18 KM/H difference. 4 I could believe, 6 and I would be highly skeptical, but 18 is absurd and whoever did repairs or modifications on your car could probably get slapped into the slammer.

well, they are supposed to give you 10% leeway here. Add a different sized set of rims/tires than the ones the speedo was configured with to a speedo that's 10kmh out, and it's quite possible ;) Very bad, but possible ;)

Also, how does he know the machine was configured correctly, certainly the Vic Police have an awful reputation in that area.

EDIT: 10% leeway
