A quick question... what is the absolute minimum specs needed for a machine to run a divx movie via I mean would a p100 with a 4mb pci card and 32megs of ram run the movie just the same as more average compuer? Does it take a lot of computing power??

Yeah, it does take quite a bit of power. I've ran DivX on an AMD K6-300...it got ~12fps. That's with a Voodoo3 2000 PCI and 64MB of RAM, too! Also, I've ran it on an AMD K6-2 500 and it would play OK, but the slightest application power would make it skip and jerk.

I have ran it on a Pentium II 333Mhz with 64MB of RAM and integrated ATi video and it played superb! I don't think, however, it will run satisfactory on a Pentium 100. :(

Do you happen to know what type of card the intergerted one was?? How much mem etc?? So it looks like may be a celeron 400 with 64mb of ram and a half decent card should do... any other opinions experiences??

well the video card has absolutely nothing to do with playing a divx movie exept displaying the image(divx movies are not texture mapped polygons you know)

Ahhh, yes. One of my buddies had a Celeron 400 in his Dell system. Yeah, that played just fine with integrated video. He was able to play DivX just fine without any skips.
