Mandrake traditionally needs atleast an i586 (x86). You know it would have been faster to look these up on your own.

Absolute bare minimum installation requirements:

Network connection/floppy/CDROM etc MAY be required depending upon your chosen method of installation.


Windows 98:
486DX 66MHz
16MB RAM
120MB to 295MB HDD depending on file system and chosen installation options.
VGA compatible graphics card

Windows 2000-Professional
64MB RAM..... (It CAN be installed with 32MB of RAM, and the installation WILL continue but it is not supported by Microsoft)
Pentium 133MHz
2GB HDD, with 650MB free.
VGA Compatible graphics card.

Windows 2000-Server
128MB RAM.... (It CAN be installed with 64MB of RAM, and the installation WILL continue but it is not supported by Microsoft)
Pentium 133MHz
2GB HDD, with 1GB free.
VGA compatible graphics card

Windows 2000 Advanced Server
(Same as for 'Server' install)

Windows 2000 Datacenter Server
Minimum 8-way capable Server. (Might be capable of running with less, but without fault tolerance)

256MB RAM (It CAN be installed with 64MB of RAM, and the installation WILL continue but it is not supported by Microsoft)
2GB HDD, with 1GB free.
CDROM IS required irregardless of installation method. (Or so MS claims, I've not tested to confirm but I suspect installation over network could bypass this.)

For Win2K (all versions, and XP Pro):
Installation can be performed on a dumb client over a network with considerably lower requirements.
As an example, I've installed Win2k Pro on a 486DX 66MHz w/16MB of RAM on a dumb client to remotely run Win2K from another machine.
That's strictly for a corporate network though and is not applicable for use in a home envronment nor if the machine ever needs to be directly accessed.

I know someone who put Windows 2000 Pro on a Pentium 90 or 100mhz system and he thought it was "fast enough". I think you realistically should have at least a 400mhz system for Windows 200, and probably 500 or preferrably 600mhz for Windows XP. Both of these OSes need at least 128 mb ram, with Windows XP being better off with 256mb.
Yeah, I know, this isn't exactly what you were asking, but I'm 90% sure you won't be happy unless you run your Windows 2000 or XP systems with at least the above specs.
