Ok, it seems like just about EVERYONE here has had issues with software that defaults to 60hz refresh rate, and it usually takes some kind of tweak or fix to get it to 85 or higher.

You know how 60hz is usually the floor for refresh rates (sometimes you can get a lower one) why doesn't Microsoft raise the floor to something higher like 75 or 85?

They should just do away with low refresh rates totally.

I agree! 70 hertz is what you want to set your game resolutions to as I've found this gives you the smoothest, most movie-like fluid movement.:)

How would you deal with displays that use a lower refresh rate? TV-out NTSC is 60Hz, PAL is 50 Hz, LCD panels 60 Hz. Sorry, no good for me. There are plenty of workarounds for refresh rate.

Lot's of reasons including:

-DOS mode/BIOS screens.
-Installing OSes.
-Some hardware doesn't even support 75 Hz (eg LCDs, older monitors etc).

however it would be wonderful to have the os defualt to an "optimal" setting which is auctualy optimal. im mean windows can determan the maximium refresh at any given resolution for a plug and play moniter, why not defualt to it?
