Minimum HD space for Windows 2000?

I'm going to get a new HD, but for the time being I've got an 8.4 GB and a 2.7 GB drive in my new system. I had Windows 98SE installing in the C: partition of the 8.4 GB drive and I wonder if I can go ahead and install Windows 2000 on that 1 GB partition. Once installed I figure I can install Partition Magic and expand the C: partition to maybe 2 GB for better performance and some breathing space. Can I do this or do I need to give Win2k some more room initially?

Microsoft claims only 650 meg for install (300 megs more for temp files for Network install)

Typically in the real world it is around 800-850 meg. To close a call for a 1GB partition.

However, if the install will go OK then I figure I can then install Partition Magic and increase the boot partition's size to 2 GB. What's wrong with that?

I ran 2k on a 1.3GB drive before .... It worked ... you should be fine with a 1gb partition

I ran Partition Magic before doing the install expanding the 1 GB partition to 2 GB. After installing there was almost exactly 1 GB left. I suppose some of the used space is for the swap file. The reason I didn't want to run PM before the install is that Win98SE was on the C: partition and it would hang every time I tried to run it when the drive was in my former machine. In my new system it didn't hang. It actually opened. However, after sitting in PM for a couple of minutes the machine spontaneously rebooted! Don't know what's up with that. Of course, Win98SE was suspect being moved to a new MB and I didn't expect stability. Even so, the reboot alarmed me. Hopefully, after installing Win2k it will be stable.
