Minimum dimensions for a "king-size bedroom?"

My current BR is 18x12, made possible in a sub-700sqft. living space because my condo is 1br. But I'm looking to get a 2 or 3br next.

My 4 post cherry king bed is heirloom-quality and non-negotiable. What's the smallest size room I should be able to comfortably shoehorn it into (closet/window placement permitting)?

Thanks...

I consider the minimum size for a Master Bedroom to be about 13x15, 15x17 is much more comfortable 18x20 or larger is ideal.

Its not the dimensions of your bed, but rather the number of women who simultaneously sleep in it with you. 😉

13x15 is probably the most reasonable expectation given my budget vs. location / square footage ideals. Next place is hopefully gonna be a townhouse in the ballpark of 1000 or so sq ft.

I'd say the minimum would be the dimensions of the bed; you can always use the bed as a floor when not sleeping.

Depends what you need/want to do in your bedroom room.

I have a queen size bed in a 12 x 12 room but it works because I like the relaxation-focused, minimalist feel, and all my toys are in the home office or the living room

For what reason are you looking at going 2/3-bedroom?

I'm looking to get back closer to Boston; my brother is looking to share a space instead of own as he currently does (and he works in the town I'd be moving to). I would use the additional roommate income from him as a way to afford a better (larger + better location = faster appreciation) place, and provide room for my growing amount of "toys" too. Townhouses specifically would also give basement sq footage not included in the "on-paper" assessment but very usable for a lab to house my equipment, which is my largest overall space consideration. However, my bedroom size takes an inherent hit unless I get a much larger place than I could afford.

My gf has been a longtime fan of the "bed-room" concept, DanJ, but I question its real-life feasability 🙂
