Minimum CPU / Graphics for 1080P youtube videos?

The socket 478 P4's with any video card refuse to play 1080 videos off youtube, they just skip.

I have an opteron 180 dual core with an x800 XT and it seems to just barley make it. This is the oldest PC I have running.

So what is the deal? Youtube cannot be that demanding can it?

It's adobe, intentionally bloating their flash player. Eventually you will need an i5 and 8GB of RAM to handle youtube. I only say that half-jokingly. It's funny how you could go back in time 5 years with that machine and it would handle youtube just fine.

With those video cards, the CPU has to handle the video, and it's not enough. Try the Opteron with a new[ish] video card, like a Geforce GT 210-240.

My apple mini which is a C2D 2.26, 8GB ram, nVIDIA 9400 256mb dedicated graphics, is just on the edge with windows. If you have the computer running for a few days it too stutters, after a reboot it plays it fine.

In apple OSX 10.6.8, with updated flash in safari & firefox, it plays fluid like and perfect. So what gives? Now I am ultra confused. Its like windows sucks with youtube.

Dunno. The 9400M has the dedicated hardware, though the C2D should be capable of pure software playback. My best guess would be a driver or flash problem.

What browser are you using? IE, FF, and Chrome(s) each technically use a different flash player interface, and may act differently.

Do you have the hardware acceleration box ticked in your Flash preferences?
